South Georgia Heritage Trust held it's first UK event at Discovery Point, Dundee on 30th September 2008, in the presence of the Patron of SGHT, The Princess Royal.
The Princess Royal arrived at Discovery Point at 5.30pm and was introduced to the staff and trustees of SGHT and Dundee Industrial Heritage who were the hosts at Discovery Point.
Mr Howard Pearce, Chairman of SGHT showed The Princess Royal an exhibition on SGHT's work for South Georgia.
The Princess Royal then joined an audience of 80 members of the public, friends and sponsors to watch actor Aidan Dooley's enthralling one-man play "Tom Crean - Antarctic Explorer".
After the play Aidan, still in costume, was introduced to The Princess Royal, who then joined the audience members in a reception in the Falcon Scott Suite.
In the reception Mr Robert Burton of the South Georgia Association showed The Princess Royal an exhibition on the centenary of the Letters Patent for South Georgia, celebrating 100 years since the British Government issued Letters Patent to consolidate the claim to South Georgia and other Antarctic territories into the Falkland Islands Dependencies.
After The Princess Royal had met and chatted to all of the audience members, SGHT Chairman Mr Howard Pearce made a speech thanking everyone who had made the event such a success. The Princess Royal accepted a gift of the book "Grytviken Seen Through a Camera Lens" by SGHT Norway's Sitg-Tore Lunde, and thanked all those who had supported SGHT's work to benefit South Georgia.
