The SGHT James Caird project aims to bring a full-size replica of the James Caird lifeboat to South Georgia museum. The boat, was built by ex-skipper of the Abel J research vessel, Bob Wallace using traditional methods.
Bob built the replica the James Caird usedin the 1999 Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure IMAX film, and is seen here playing the great man himself.

Having the James Caird replica at the museum will help bring the heroic tale of Shackleton and crew's open boat journey across the Southern Ocean to South Georgia to life for the museum's visitors,
and will be a fitting tribute in the museum next to his last resting place. |
