The SGHT James Caird project aimed to bring a full-size replica of the James Caird lifeboat to South Georgia museum. The boat was built by ex-skipper of the Abel J research vessel, Bob Wallace using traditional methods.

Here is the story in pictures of the James Caird III and Bob Wallace arriving on the cruise vessel Akademik Shokalskiy, and everyone who helped bring the lifeboat to its new home at South Georgia museum.

Thanks to our sponsor Quark

The James Caird replica willl help bring the heroic tale of Shackleton and crew's open boat journey across the Southern Ocean to life for the museum's visitors, and will be a fitting tribute in the museum next to his last resting place.

Our thanks go to the crew and passengers of Quark ship Akademik Shokalskiy, Morrison PLC, Dave Peck and Pat Lurcock for all their help, but most of all to Bob Wallace.
