New SGHT Chair appointed

February 2018 Trustees Meeting, BAS Cambridge. South Georgia was declared rodent free in May 2018. Philippa 4th from right, Nick 4th from left.

At the SGHT AGM in London on 28th February 2019 we said farewell to Philippa Foster Back CBE, who retired from the Board after chairing the Trust since 2016.

During Philippa’s Chairmanship the island of South Georgia was officially declared free of rodents. This announcement followed Phase 4 of our Habitat Restoration Project (the 2017/18 survey where the team were joined by three rodent detection dogs and their handlers). SGHT thanked Philippa for her leadership as the Trust refocused its efforts on South Georgia’s cultural heritage.

SGHT warmly welcomed Nick Prentice as its new Chair on 28 February. Nick became an SGHT Trustee in September 2014 and in recent years has been SGHT’s Trustee with oversight of finance. We look forward to exciting times ahead under his Chairmanship as we develop a new cultural heritage agenda and continue our environmental work.
